Living in Puerto Lopez

Puerto Lopez is a small and picturesque fishing town in Manabi Province.
Famous for its beaches and neighbouring National Park, Puerto Lopez is a popular destination for local holiday makers, visiting backpackers and nature lovers alike.
The ETV volunteer house is our base in Puerto Lopez and you’ll soon feel at home with our resident local staff. The house is situated on the edge of town and is 10 minutes walk from the beach. Bedrooms are shared with up to 4 people in each room, there is a communal bathroom block. Our chef provides 3 good meals per day from Monday to Friday, weekends are free for you to explore. (Weekend meals available at nominal cost)
The beach in Puerto Lopez is a favourite place to hang out in the evening and there are cafes and bars for entertainment at weekends. Machalilla National Park protects the last of the coastal dry forest and is within easy reach of Puerto Lopez and the archaeological remains at Agua Blanca are indicators of a mysterious past culture. Not far offshore is Isla de la Plata, home to a wide variety of marine and bird species including many that live also on the Galapagos Islands. E.g. Blue footed boobies, sea lion colonies and frigate birds. From June to September you are almost guaranteed to spot humpback whales in the ocean within a few kilometres of Puerto Lopez and on the water itself you can surf, kayak and snorkel. Whether you are an adventure seeker, sun bather or book worm, you’ll enjoy your time here!
